Nevaeh Evan’s life is uprooted after her father’s death, when she moves in with her aunt and cousin, Livvie. Her plan to lay low at her new high school isn’t working. Her friend’s jerky boyfriend keeps asking her out, the guy she likes treats her like garbage, and the thought of tumbling again makes her want to hurl.

So when her aunt pushes her into joining the elite X-FACTOR cheer leading squad, Nevaeh goes along with it.

But Nev feels she doesn’t deserve to be happy. Not after what happened the night her father died.

Bodie Scott knows about grief all too well. Critically injured in an alcohol related accident the year before, Bodie struggles with the fact that he’ll never play football again, and he’s so far behind in credits he can’t see straight. That is, until he meets Nev. Haunted by their bloody pasts and wary of a shared future, Nev and Bodie turn to one another for comfort and support, and realize they’re not so alone after all. And when the party scene at school threatens the life of a loved one, the two stop at nothing to keep the past from repeating itself.

Crushed Crushed Series Book One eBook Elisa Dane

I don't typically read YA--too often the emotional immaturity just makes me want to throw my kindle--but this was excellent. The two main characters have both been through life-altering events and are still healing and coming to terms with the resulting changes, so they're not your typical teenagers. But they don't come across as thirty-somethings either. Really, just well-developed characters all-around, including the secondary characters.

The story also had a really nice level of detail. For instance, though most of the cheer/tumbling terminology went over my head, it wasn't that much different from any story where a main character is an athlete; it didn't detract from the story at all but helped ground it in reality.

The plot moved along smoothly, with great pacing, and I wasn't ever sure just where it was going to go. The powerful subject was deftly handled without either preaching or skimming over consequences. A new author for me, and I'm really glad I stepped out of my normal genres to read this. 5 stars

Crushed Crushed Series Book One eBook Elisa Dane Reviews

I don't normally read the YA genre, however, Elisa Dane has written a great storyline with well defined characters that kept my interest from the very beginning of the book until the very end.
I loved this drama filled YA novel! The characters dealt with some hard, intense issues yet there wasn't any of the unnecessary teenage angst that you sometimes come across in ya fiction. I was able to fully enjoy the story as an adult, and can only imagine that a young or new adult would find it even more enjoyable it's one of those novels that can appeal to many age levels.
This is more of a message then it is about some fictional story. The author stresses the dangers of drinking and driving in this heartfelt and touching, emotional journey that two teenagers have to take together in hopes of being able to recover from their dark past.
I was given this book free and I'm giving an honest review.
This was a book I couldn't put down from the moment I started reading the 1 st Chapter! Crushed has real issues that teens deal with in High School, especially all the pressure. I thought this was a 5 star book!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review.
This was a wonderful YA romance. It had wonderfully well developed characters who had both been through something life altering and found comfort in each other. I felt so many emotions reading this book, but didn't want to put it down until I reached the end. I definitely recommend.
Wow...once again Elisa Dane has sucked me into her story. After reading the first book I had great thoughts about the next one in the lineup....and they were justified!!! This book just reached out and tugged my heartstrings and wouldn't let go. This story covers 2 teens who have been through loss and come out the other side. They are both hurting and struggling but find each other. Once again the topic of the book makes you open your eyes and see things in a different light. Love this author and her books!!

Thoughts
~This is my second read from this author. A young adult Contemporary read dealing with real life problems involving teens or anyone by that matter. It had a strong message. The author KNOWS how to deliver epic scenes and you will know what I am talking about if you have read it or plan to read it. The cover is beautiful and does express the theme of the book. The main Character Nev, pist me off at times and the romance was too insta love for my liking. The "I love You" came rather quick. The character Bodie though, <3 I guarantee you will fall for (^.^). I definitely recommend checking out her books cause I am still haunted by a particular one she wrote and its a favorite!
